On August 10, World Lion Day attempts to increase public awareness of the difficulties facing lions. Lions, also referred to as “Panthero Leo” in scientific literature. Among the most well-known and well-liked animal species. Because of their arresting and intimidating personalities, which are a result of their magnificent bodies and thick, shining manes, they are known as the “Kings of the Jungle.” A lion’s roar is unmatched in strength and may be heard up to five kilometres distant. Lions are particularly adored by kids because of pop culture heroes like Simba from “The Lion King.” However, due to hunting and poaching, lion populations today are slightly under 50,000 worldwide, compared to massive populations that they had 100 years ago.

HISTORY OF WORLD LION DAY :-

In 2013, the first World Lion Day was established. Dereck and Beverly Joubert, a couple who are enthusiastic about conservation and wild cats, served as its leaders. The Jouberts contacted “National Geographic” for assistance after learning that lion populations have severely fallen throughout the world. In 2009, the pair created the Big Cat Initiative (B.C.I.) in collaboration with them. The B.C.I.’s primary objective would be to safeguard and maintain the world’s remaining lion species. Although factors like deforestation, climate change, and human meddling may have had an impact on lion populations, research have indicated that their incredibly low numbers may also be related to ice ages and natural environmental calamities that have forced them to become reclusive in only a few select areas.
