Netflix is progressively expanding its presence in the gaming industry. While Netflix already offers ad-free game downloads on Android and iOS devices, the streaming giant is preparing for the formal launch of Netflix games on television. Netflix has released the Netflix Game Controller software on the Apple software Store for iPhones and iPads, with an expected deployment to Android phones in the near future.

The Netflix Game Controller app acts as a virtual gamepad, allowing you to play Netflix games on your TV. The app pairs with your TV to enable gaming via your mobile device and is compatible with devices running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 and later.

The objective stated in the App Store description:

“On Netflix very soon.” Use the Netflix Game Controller to play games on your TV. This Game Controller app connects to your TV and allows you to play Netflix games on your phone or mobile device.”
Netflix’s foray into cloud gaming began in 2021, with a focus on devices with low specifications.

The company’s goal has been to make its gaming games available to a broad audience without the use of advertisements. Laya’s Horizon, World of Goo Remastered, and Spooky Oxenfree II: Lost Signals are recent additions to their cloud gaming repertoire.

The Netflix Game Controller app was released five months after Leanne Loombe, Netflix’s VP of External Games, hinted at the initiative’s early phases. Netflix has approached cloud gaming with caution, aware of problems such as hardware constraints and potential slowness issues. Loombe’s cautious posture came in the aftermath of Google Stadia’s unexpected exit from the gaming scene.
