The entire north of India is gripped by monsoon fury, with landslides reported in several states. More heavy rain is expected across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Several rivers in the area are overflowing, destroying roadways. Many roads and buildings in cities and towns are still flooded in knee-deep water. In such a case, two families in Himachal Pradesh devised a novel method of marrying their children.

When inclement weather and blocked roads made it difficult for Ashish Singha to take his ‘baraat’ from Kotgarh in Shimla to marry Shivani Thakur in Kullu’s Bhuntar, their families decided to marry via video conference.

Mr Singha was supposed to arrive in Bhuntar with the wedding procession on Monday, but the administration in Kullu has warned against any such events because the district is the epicentre of the recent calamity. According to the PTI report, the couple’s relatives arranged a ‘internet wedding’ to escape the pandemonium and stay safe in such weather. Heavy rain has been falling in Himachal Pradesh since Saturday, causing flash floods and landslides and causing damage to homes.
