Delhi's Government Unveils Comprehensive Plan to Combat Air Pollution
In a significant move to tackle the escalating pollution crisis in the Indian capital, the Delhi government has introduced a series of stringent measures aimed at reducing air quality deterioration. These new policies include restrictions on older vehicles, mandatory installations of anti-smoke technology, and a shift towards electric public transport.
The Delhi Environment Minister, Manjar Singh, announced that vehicles older than 15 years will be barred from receiving fuel at petrol stations until March 31. This initiative aims to phase out polluting vehicles that contribute significantly to air quality issues. To support this effort, the government is also implementing the installation of anti-smoke guns in high-rise buildings, hotels, and commercial complexes across the city to mitigate emissions.
In a bold step towards a cleaner public transport system, Singh revealed plans to replace 90% of the public CNG buses in Delhi with electric buses by December 2025. This transition is part of a broader strategy to enhance the sustainability of Delhi's transport network.
As part of the government's commitment to environmental protection, advanced gadgets are being installed at petrol pumps, with about 80% already equipped. The goal is to have all petrol pumps fitted with these devices by March 31, ensuring a comprehensive approach to monitoring and controlling fuel distribution to older vehicles.
With these measures, the Delhi government aims not only to improve air quality but also to set a precedent for other cities grappling with similar pollution challenges. As the deadline approaches, further details regarding the enforcement of these regulations and public compliance will be communicated through the Petroleum Ministry.
As Delhi embarks on this journey towards better air quality, the success of these initiatives will be critical in shaping the future of urban living in the capital.
