Uttar Pradesh Police Clamp Down on Inappropriate Content During Mahak Mela
In a decisive move, the Uttar Pradesh police have initiated legal proceedings against social media accounts involved in posting and selling objectionable videos of women pilgrims bathing during the Mahak Mela. This action follows directives from police chief Prashant Kumar as part of a broader effort to combat misleading and offensive content related to the religious gathering.

The police, through their monitoring team, discovered that certain social media platforms were violating the privacy and dignity of women by uploading videos of them bathing and changing clothes at the Kumbh Mela. The police stated that such actions are not only inappropriate but also harmful to the sanctity of the pilgrimage.
On February 19, a case was registered against a Telegram channel found to be offering inappropriate videos for sale, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings against the channel. Investigations are ongoing to ensure accountability for such violations. Additionally, another case was registered on February 17 against an Instagram account for similar offenses. The police have reached out to Meta, the parent company of Instagram, to obtain information that will help identify the account operator. Arrests are anticipated once the necessary details are gathered.
The Mahak Mela, held in Prayag Raj, is a significant religious event that began on January 13 and will conclude on February 26. It has reportedly attracted over 50 crore worshippers who have come to take a dip in the holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. As the event continues, authorities remain vigilant to uphold the dignity and privacy of all participants.
This crackdown underscores the commitment of law enforcement to maintain respect and integrity in religious gatherings, ensuring that the sanctity of the event is preserved amidst the challenges posed by modern technology and social media.
