UK Health Minister Andrew Gain Sacked Over Offensive WhatsApp Messages
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sacked Health Minister Andrew Gain after offensive WhatsApp messages surfaced. Gain, now suspended from the Labour Party, becomes the third minister to exit the government in seven months.

Labour Government Faces Another Crisis
In the latest political shakeup within the UK government, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed Health Minister Andrew Gain following revelations that he sent offensive and abusive messages on WhatsApp. Gain has also been suspended from the Labour Party after reports emerged of his alleged anti-Semitic, racist, and sexist remarks on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Gain issued a public apology, stating:
“I deeply regret my badly misjudged comments and apologize for any offense I have caused. I entirely understand the decisions the PM and the party have taken.”

What Did the Leaked Messages Reveal?
According to British media reports, Gain made highly inappropriate remarks in a Labour Party WhatsApp group that included more than a dozen Labour councillors, party officials, and at least one other MP. His comments included:
- Joking about a constituent being mowed down by a truck.
- Mocking a 72-year-old woman who inquired about rubbish collection, saying he hoped she would "soon be dead."
The scandal has further dented Labour’s reputation, already dealing with multiple high-profile ministerial departures.
Third Minister to Exit Labour Government in Seven Months
Gain’s dismissal marks the third major departure from Starmer’s government since last summer’s election. Previous resignations include:
- Tulip Siddiq (Treasury Minister, January 2025) – Stepped down due to alleged links between her aunt’s political movement in Bangladesh and financial irregularities.
- L. Heygas (Transport Secretary, November 2024) – Resigned after pleading guilty to stealing a work mobile phone.
The repeated controversies have put Starmer’s leadership under scrutiny, raising questions about Labour’s internal discipline and vetting processes.
What’s Next for Starmer’s Government?
While Starmer has acted swiftly in removing Gain, the Labour Party now faces increasing pressure to enforce stricter internal accountability. With three ministers gone in under a year, public confidence in the government’s stability is being severely tested.
Will Starmer’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct be enough to restore trust, or is his government headed for more turbulence? Only time will tell.
