TRANSFORMER
Transformer is a static device which transfers Electrical power from one circuit to another circuit without change in frequency.
FEATURES
- Transformer is a constant frequency device as it does not change the frequency of the system.
- Transformer is also a constant power device as it transfers same amount of power from one circuit to another circuit.
- Transformer is also a constant power device as it transfers same amount of power from one circuit to another circuit.
- Transformer is a coupled circuit in which two windings are electrically isolated but magnetically coupled.
- Transformer is a Phase-Shifting Device, since it offers a displacement of 180 degrees between two circuits.
- Transformer is a singly exited device, since it requires only one external voltage source to energise its windings.
- Transformer is a constant-flux device since its core flux remains constant irrespective of power transfer.
- Transformer is a negative feedback circuit as it satisfies ‘Lenz’s law’.
- Transformer is a four terminal 2-port network as shown below.
