Threads, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s new social networking programme aimed at unseating Elon Musk’s Twitter, has reached 100 million users in just five days. While many users have enjoyed getting to know the new software, many have complained that it is draining their smartphone’s battery.

Several angry users mentioned the issue on Twitter, with one even noting that they love using Threads but that it is draining their phone’s power at a “lightning-fast” rate.

“Is Threads just…murderous to anyone else’s battery?” a Twitter user inquired. “Is Threads a drain on the iphone battery or did something change with the iphones lately? I’m not on the app hardly at all but lately my battery is draining way more than normal,” tweeted a third.

Meanwhile, since Threads’ inception, the app’s traffic has increased, while Twitter’s has decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year, according to the New York Post. Threads has surpassed 100 million sign-ups in 5 days, dethroning ChatGPT as the fastest online platform to reach the milestone.

Twitter, on the other hand, has threatened to sue Meta, claiming that the social media network stole its trade secrets and other confidential information. Furthermore, Elon Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, has written to Mark Zuckerberg, accusing him of “illegal misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.”

In response, Meta stated that the Threads technical team did not contain any former Twitter workers.
