The peacock dance is a mesmerizing display performed primarily by male peacocks, or peafowls, to attract female peafowls, called peahens. The dance is characterized by the male spreading his vibrant tail feathers, shaking them, and performing a series of intricate movements. Key elements of the peacock dance include:

a. Feather Display

The most striking feature of the peacock dance is the display of its iridescent tail feathers, known as the train. The train consists of elongated upper-tail coverts adorned with eye-like patterns called ocelli. When a male peacock fans out his train, it creates a magnificent semicircular array that catches the light and shimmers in various colors, including blue, green, and gold.

b. Shivering and Shaking

During the dance, the male peacock shivers and shakes his feathers to create a rustling sound. This auditory component adds to the visual spectacle and helps capture the attention of the peahens.

b. Green Peafowl (Pavo muticus)

• Appearance: The green peafowl, also known as the Javanese peafowl, has bright green and blue plumage with a more streamlined train compared to the Indian peafowl. Females are similar in color to the males but slightly duller.

• Habitat: This species is native to Southeast Asia, including Myanmar, Thailand, and Java. They inhabit dense forests and riverbanks.

c. Congo Peafowl (Afropavo congensis)
