Team India Secures Semi-Final Spot with Dominant Win Over UAE in Women's Asia Cup 2024
Harmanpreet Kaur’s Team India entered the semi-finals of the continental tournament by defeating the United Arab Emirates in the Group A fixture at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
Extending their dominance with another comfortable win at the Women's Asia Cup 2024, defending champions Team India thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 78 runs in Match No.5 of Group A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday. With a semi-final berth up for grabs, Harmanpreet Kaur's Team India showcased an impressive batting performance in the 2024 edition of the continental tournament hosted by Sri Lanka.
Debutant Tanuja Kanwar replaced the injured Shreyanka Patil in the Indian XI against UAE. Invited to bat first by UAE skipper Esha Rohit Oza, India faced an early setback, losing three wickets for 52 runs inside the first powerplay. Staging India's fightback, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (66) and Richa Ghosh (64*) slammed half-centuries to help India post a record total of 201-5 in 20 overs. This marked the Indian women's first 200-plus total in T20Is.
In the bowling department, Renuka Thakur Singh, Tanuja Kanwar, Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, and Radha Yadav all contributed with wickets. Their collective bowling effort restricted the United Arab Emirates to 123-7 in 20 overs. With this convincing 78-run victory over the UAE, Harmanpreet's Team India sealed their berth in the semi-finals of the Women's Asia Cup 2024.
