The Government of India has made it mandatory for individuals to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar card.

The purpose of this linking is to eliminate duplicate and fake PAN cards and to streamline the income tax filing process. If you haven’t linked your PAN with Aadhaar yet, don’t worry.

Step 1:  Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Website To begin the process, visit the official website of the Income Tax Department of India at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in. This website serves as the central platform for all income tax-related activities.

Step 2: Register or Login to your Account If you are a new user, click on the “Register Yourself” option to create a new account. Fill in the necessary details such as your PAN, name, date of birth, and contact information. If you already have an account, simply log in using your credentials.

Step 3: Access the Profile Settings After logging in, locate the “Profile Settings” tab on the dashboard. It is usually found in the top-right corner of the page. Click on it to proceed.

Step 4: Link Aadhaar Within the “Profile Settings” section, you will find the “Link Aadhaar” option. Click on it to initiate the linking process.

Step 5: Enter Aadhaar Details A new page will open, prompting you to enter your Aadhaar details. Provide your 12-digit Aadhaar number, along with other necessary details such as your name as per Aadhaar, and the Captcha code displayed on the screen. Ensure that you enter the information accurately.

Step 6: Verify the Details After entering the Aadhaar details, click on the “Submit” button. The website will validate the information provided by you with the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) database. If the details match, the linking process will proceed.

Step 7: Linking Successful Upon successful verification, a confirmation message will be displayed on the screen indicating that your PAN and Aadhaar have been linked successfully. You will also receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number and email address.

Alternate Method: Linking via SMS Apart from the online method, you can also link your PAN with Aadhaar by sending an SMS. To do this, compose a message in the following format: UIDPAN<SPACE><12-digit Aadhaar number><SPACE><10-digit PAN>. Send this message to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number.
