Reika Gupta Inaugurated as Delhi’s New Chief Minister

In a historic moment for Delhi, Reika Gupta is set to take the oath as the Chief Minister at Ram Lila Maidan, marking her as the fourth woman to hold this position in the national capital and the second from the BJP. This follows her successful claim to form a government after being selected as the leader of the House in a meeting of BJP legislators, MPs, and party officials.

Gupta's election victory in the Shalar Northwest constituency during the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, where she secured over 68,276 votes, underscores her significant political influence. At 50 years old, Gupta is a seasoned leader, currently serving as the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP and previously holding the position of National Vice President of the party's women's wing.

Alongside Gupta, senior leader Parvesh Varma, who triumphed over former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, will be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. Other ministers taking the oath include Ashish Sood, Mender Singh, Rajendra Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

The BJP's impressive performance in the recent elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats, marks a significant return to power in Delhi after over 27 years, the last BJP-led government having served from 1993 to 1998. As Gupta steps into her new role, her administration's policies and governance strategies will be closely monitored during this pivotal transition in Delhi's political landscape.
