Seven migrant workers and an engineer were injured when a slab being laid for building a ramp of an under-construction flyover collapsed in LB Nagar on Wednesday morning, police officials said.
The incident happened around 3.10 am when concrete was being poured between two pillars of the flyover for construction of the ramp, they said.
While eight workers have been rescued, a search and rescue operation is underway to ascertain if anyone else is trapped under the debris.
The reasons for the collapse of the slab while being laid are yet to be ascertained. LB Nagar police have registered an FIR under section 337 (Whoever causes hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and started the investigation.
The flyover is a part of the ongoing Strategic Road Development Plan (SDRP) of the state government and taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to connect LB Nagar junction and Sagar Ring Road via Bairamalguda.
A senior police officer said: “There were 8 workers on the ramp that was under construction at the time. Prima facie, it is found that the earth that held the structure supporting the under-construction ramp has become wet and soft. Because of this, it moved the structure leading to the collapse of the ramp. A case has been registered against contractor BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd for negligence and further investigation will reveal more.”
