A Journey to the Sun's Corona
The Parker Solar Probe, during its mission, crossed the jagged boundary between the solar atmosphere and the outgoing solar wind while being approximately 8 million miles from the Sun's center. The spacecraft made multiple passes through the corona, with each transition occurring smoothly. This milestone is a significant leap in solar exploration, providing insights into the Sun’s evolution and its impact on the solar system.
Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA's Associate Administrator, emphasized the importance of this accomplishment, stating, “Not only does this milestone provide us with deeper insights into our Sun’s evolution and its impacts on our solar system, but everything we learn about our own star also teaches us more about stars in the rest of the universe.”
Scientific Discoveries and Future Insights
