Kashmir Security Forces Intensify Operations After Pelgam Terror Attack
In the wake of the recent Pelgam terror attack, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have ramped up efforts to dismantle networks of overground workers linked to terrorism, booking over 60 individuals under the Public Safety Act. This crackdown follows extensive raids across various districts, with authorities conducting operations at around 100 locations since yesterday.
Heightened Security Measures
The Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently in Srinagar, coordinating with senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir police, the Indian Army, and paramilitary forces. The focus is on ensuring safety and stability in the region, particularly following the attack that has raised significant security concerns.
Ongoing Combing Operations
Reports indicate that four major combing operations are underway in the Anantnag district, which is near the site of the attack. Security forces are actively patrolling Srinagar, ensuring that areas are sanitized and free from potential threats. Eyewitness accounts reveal a substantial presence of security personnel conducting thorough searches, particularly in locations where the terrorists are believed to have operated.
Details of the Attack
Sources indicate that approximately 15 overground workers assisted the terrorists in executing the Pelgam attack. Initially, the terrorists had planned to target a different location in Bulmar; however, heightened security in that area led them to opt for Biseran, where they perceived a lower security presence. Following the attack, the assailants reportedly fled into nearby forested regions, prompting ongoing combing operations by security forces to track them down.
NIA’s Investigative Efforts
The NIA is employing advanced techniques, including 3D mapping of the Biseran area, to aid in their investigation. They are also gathering video evidence related to the attack, which will be crucial in piecing together the events and identifying those involved.
