India's Army Chief Conducts Security Review in Kashmir Following Terror Attack
In the wake of a deadly terror attack in Pahelgam that claimed 26 lives, India's Army Chief has arrived in Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security situation. This visit comes at a critical time as the Indian Army ramps up efforts to track down the perpetrators responsible for the attack. The Chief is expected to lead a high-level security review in Srinagar, focusing on ongoing operations against terrorists and addressing violations of the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LOC) by the Pakistan Army.
Intensified Operations Against Terrorism
During his visit, the Army Chief received a briefing from the 15 Corps Commander regarding the current security landscape and the actions being undertaken to neutralize threats. In response to the Pahelgam attack, Indian forces have launched a comprehensive manhunt, resulting in multiple gunfights in various districts.
One such encounter erupted in the Bandipora district on Friday, following intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. Security forces initiated a coordinated search operation, which escalated into an exchange of fire when militants opened fire on personnel. Additionally, a joint team of security forces successfully dismantled a terrorist hideout in Kulgam, with an exchange of fire occurring during the operation.
On Thursday, tragedy struck when Havaldar J. Ali Shik, a soldier from the Indian Army's special forces, was killed in a gun battle in Udhampur district. This incident is part of a broader effort to confront the rising tide of terrorism in the region.
Targeting Terrorist Infrastructure
As part of the crackdown, the homes of two terrorists, believed to be linked to the Pahelgam attack, were destroyed in a blast during a search operation. One of these terrorists, Af Shik, is suspected of being directly involved in the attack. The security forces acted swiftly upon detecting suspicious objects, leading to a significant explosion that damaged the property.
Another individual, identified as Adil Toker, was also targeted. Toker had traveled to Pakistan in 2018 for terror training before returning to Jammu and Kashmir last year. His operations in the region have raised concerns about the ongoing threat posed by local militants.
Cross-Border Tensions
Compounding the situation, Pakistan has reportedly opened fire across the Line of Control from multiple posts. In response, Indian forces retaliated, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two nations that continue to affect the security dynamics in Jammu and Kashmir.
As security forces remain vigilant in their efforts to combat terrorism and maintain peace in the region, the Army Chief's visit underscores the urgency of addressing these challenges head-on.
