WTC 2023 final Day 1 highlights: Travis Head and Steve Smith led Australia to 327/3 in 85 overs on Day 1 of the summit showdown at The Oval.

On Day 1 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final versus Team India at The Oval, Travis Head hammered a 106-ball century while Steve Smith completed his half-century to give Australia complete control.

After Pat Cummins and company were reduced to 76/3 in the second session of Day 1, the pair stitched an important partnership for the fourth wicket. India began the day on a high note, as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja for 0 in the opening session.

Opening batsman David Warner and top-ranked batter Marnus Labuschagne then maintained the fort, putting up 69 runs for the second wicket until the Aussie southpaw was bowled for 43 (60).

Early in the second session, Mohammed Shami dismissed Labuschagne (26) before Smith and Head ensured that Australia remained on the verge of a massive first innings total. On Day 1 of the WTC final at The Oval, Head and Smith’s brilliant partnership of 251 off 370 balls led Australia to 327/3 in 85 overs.
