Sleep is a hot topic right now. But how can you make sure you get a better night of sleep? An essential oil is one type of all natural sleep aid you can choose.
According to the research
Essential oils can offer a wide range of advantages, from decreasing specific infections and improving the immune system to relieving anxiety. Essential oils can also be an effective approach to relax and sleep better.
Although there has been little study on the usage of essential oils, lavender essential oil is commonly recognised as a natural sleep aid. A 2005 research, for example, looked at how lavender essential oil influenced 31 young, healthy sleepers. The next morning, all individuals reported experiencing “higher vigour.”
How to use essential oils for sleep?
Always dilute your essential oil with a carrier oil before using it topically. Applying essential oils to your skin undiluted might cause inflammation. Coconut, jojoba, and extra virgin olive oils are common carrier oils. As a general guideline, 1 teaspoon of carrier oil should be used for every 1 drop of essential oil.
You may also use a diffuser with 2-3 drops of these essential oils. This will allow the smell to enter your house.
If you don’t want to keep your diffuser running, try putting a few drops of essential oil on your pillowcase before going to bed. This will allow the scent to remain during your sleep.
Risks and precautions
It is crucial to use essential oils with caution. Before using these oils on significant regions of skin, perform a patch test.
To do a patch test, dilute your selected oil and apply the liquid to a quarter-sized area of skin. This is generally best done on the inside of your arm. Wait 24 hours to see if you are irritated or uncomfortable. If you don’t, the combination should be safe to apply across a broader area.
You should not consume essential oils. This may result in unpleasant side effects such as stomach trouble and nausea. When utilising essential oils, children, breastfeeding mothers, and pregnant people should exercise extreme caution.
