At her home in Bengaluru’s Hegganahalli, a 37-year-old lady committed suicide, according to officials on Tuesday. In a message posted on her WhatsApp status, the lady, Pavitra, accused her 32-year-old husband Chetan Gowda of engaging in an extramarital liaison with another woman.

The occurrence happened on July 2. Pavitra shared a little video of Chetan Gowda reportedly beating her and a dying message on her WhatsApp status just before she passed away.

Padma, Pavitra’s mother, attempted to call her after seeing her daughter’s WhatsApp status, but all of her calls remained unanswered. The distraught mother hurried to Pavitra’s home in Hegganahalli, where she was horrified to discover her hanging from a ceiling fan.

The mother then reported her son-in-law and another woman to the police, accusing them of helping her daughter commit suicide.

According to the police, Chetan Gowda owns Sumukh Merchants Private Limited, where Pavitra formerly held the position of manager. She apparently divorced her first husband and moved in with Chetan after falling in love with him.

“The deceased, in her suicide note, claimed that she was married to Chetan Gowda. We are investigating the matter and trying to find evidence of when and where they got married, as there is no evidence available so far,” said a top police source who requested anonymity.

The police sources also revealed that just a day before Pavitra died by suicide, the couple had a fight regarding Chetan’s alleged affair with another woman, following which Chetan left for his mother’s place. The next day, Pavitra died by suicide.

Based on the complaint filed by Pavitra’s mother, the Kengeri police have registered an FIR against Chetan and a woman under IPC section 306 (Abetment of suicide).

However, the police have formed a team and are searching for the accused, who is currently absconding.
