BCCI Announces Fixtures for ODI and T20I Series in India's Tour of Sri Lanka 2024; Wanindu Hasaranga Steps Down

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the fixtures for the upcoming white-ball series featuring Team India and Sri Lanka. This series marks the beginning of the Gautam Gambhir era in Indian cricket, with the T20I and One Day International (ODI) matches set to commence. Gambhir, a two-time ICC World Cup winner and former India opener, was appointed as the head coach of the men's senior team on Tuesday, succeeding Rahul Dravid across all formats.

Gambhir-coached Team India is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs in the July-August window. Sri Lanka will host India in consecutive T20Is on July 26 and 27. The bilateral ODI series will commence on August 1. All T20I matches will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, while the entire ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will be held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India is likely to miss the services of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah during the ODI series. With senior players expected to be rested, versatile batter KL Rahul could be appointed as India's captain. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to lead India's T20I side against Sri Lanka. Earlier, Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down as Sri Lanka's T20I captain ahead of the series against India. According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Hasaranga has opted to step down from captaincy responsibilities but will continue to contribute as a player in the team.
