In West Bengal, Aleya ghost lights can be spotted in bogs, swamps, and marshes. Locals believe that these lights are emitted by the stranded ghosts of dead fisherman who died in these wetlands. It is regarded as one of the most haunted locations in West Bengal

The Aleya ghost lights in West Bengal are not an isolated occurrence. These ghost lights have been sighted all over the world and are called by many names such as will-o’-the-wisp or jack-o’-lantern. This phenomenon of Will-o’-the-wisp has both baffled and evoked people all around the world for centuries, both the men of science and religion!

The local fisherman have frequently noticed this ball of flashing light, and when approached, these lights are believed to drown people! Fishermen who follow the lights are either drowned or transfixed. Many dead have washed up in these bogs, which the locals blame on Aleya lights. They think the lights are the ghosts of fishermen who died while fishing in the marshes. While some of these ghosts appear to take other fisherman off the route with the aim of murdering them, others appear to point them in the proper direction!
