Cyclone Biparjoy, which means “disaster” in Bengali, has now weakened. Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to weaken into a deep depression over Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch areas by Friday midnight, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far, the storm has killed two individuals, a father and son cattle rearer team, and injured 22 more.
According to state officials, around a thousand villages in Gujarat have lost power due to wind damage to electric lines. The cyclonic storm made on land at Jakhau Port around 6.30 p.m. on Thursday and lasted until 2.30 a.m. on Friday. Heavy rainfall has followed the landing process in Gujarat, and rainfall advisories have also been issued for Rajasthan. Even though the storm is on its way to decrease, officials in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan are on high alert.
